Republica Dominicana

We had sunshine, but never without rain, which makes the DR much like life, except hotter. My prescription: Aloe and aclohol, applied liberally, as required.

Always best to just jump right in.

Journey to the Blue Lagoon. Ms Shields unavailable.

Angus and Andrea.

Oversized insulated tourist mug with regional map: $17.
Smiles all around: priceless.

The Tuesday Tour Gang (feat: NB Mafia)

Also, as you may be able to tell from the long gap between this and my last post, I don't really use this blog that often. If you want a much better way to stay in touch (and to see more than five pictures, which is the blogger max) then you should look me up on Facebook.

Vegas baby, Vegas!

I still don't officially remember very much that happened this weekend. But Las Vegas does have some pretty mad architecture so here are a few pictures before I go to bed. Hard to appreciate the scale if you haven't been there: the Mirage (above) and the New York-New York (below) have 3044 and 2024 rooms, respectively. The NY-NY has a 1/2 scale model Statue of Liberty and also a roller coaster in it, which is pretty cool but not nearly as cool as SPEED, the electromagnet powered roller coaster at the Sahara that shoots you out into the sun at a ridiculous speed (to which you accelerated shockingly quickly). I am also heartbroken to report that the digital photos of us with the trained parrots have been somehow lost (or rather since they were on my memory card, which is just fine except for that those pictures aren't there, were probably not recorded properly to the card in the first place).

"Free" Bowling

Aside from the occasional symmetry, it must be noted that bowling is an incredibly lame pastime. Even when it's "free" (and those in attendance on this evening will understand why that requires airquotes). Still, thanks for thinking of me guys.

Who are you calling "young"??

My other blog was cited in today's Toronto Star:

"One young Liberal lawyer at the gathering, Gavin Magrath, posted a summary of Dion's speech on his blog, noting the Liberal leader was intent on showing Ontarians and the rest of the country that protecting the environment and building economic growth weren't mutually exclusive concepts."
I'll take it!

The Double Half Chicken

Well you gotta hand it to Trent: he's the kind of guy that can finish the double half chicken challenge. That's eating Two half chicken dinners at Swiss Chalet.

It's not the same as a whole chicken beacuse you also get tow heaping plates of side (potatoes only, no salads pansies!) and four sauces (one for each quarter). The rolls are delicious but, like in real life, only need to be eaten if there is still sauce remaining at the end.

I didn't have my camera, so here's a file photo (name the Cornfest, win a prize)

Happy New Year!

Ya, caught my I too. Happy New Year to everyone, especially

Champagne 30th

Here's to Ali on the day after her Champagne 30th. As will be obvious from the picture below, it was quite a party.

What would not be obvious from the picture below is that I possibly set a new record for getting kicked out of a place. The official time was less than 4 minutes, and Adrienne won the bet to prove it. So I learned Adrienne knows too much, and that it's possible to get thrown out of a place less than four minutes after having walked in and without a beer to my name.

Also big shout out to Jamie, who knows how to party, and Ali who knows how to clean up after him. Or, you know, has to, 'cause it's her place. And to Angus, back from the Western Mountains.

Happy birthday Ali!

Merry Christmas from home

Well merry Christmas from home! And we have a place left empty for... Jehova? No, Brian!

And here we are, dressed for the weather in T-shirts provided by my awesome sister. Basil did not get a T-shirt, and did not get a vote on the awesomeness.
